Take a good look at the sky. Those white, fluffy clouds, you know the ones; they are really sheep. The sheep of the sky.
In the morning they come out in the east. They graze slowly; they eat the grass of the blue sky. Sometimes they huddle together and become one enormous sheep. Sometimes the wind scatters them and they become hundreds of little lambs.
They have a shepherd too. His name is Sundown. Sundown lives on the highest hill and watches his sheep all day long. When evening comes he stands up, takes his crook and whistles.
At the first whistle the sheep lift their heads.
At the second whistle they move closer together.
At the third whistle they begin walking toward the west.
That is why the evening sky turns pink: the sheep's wool catches the last light of the sun. Then orange, then purple. The sheep go into the fold behind the mountains. The gate of the fold closes, and the sky turns dark blue.
So what are the stars? The stars are the dreams the sheep have while they sleep. Every star is one sheep's dream. It is only natural that there are so many stars; cloud sheep dream a lot.
You do as a cloud sheep does. Close your eyes now. Sundown has already given his third whistle. The fold is warm. The quilt is fluffy.
If you look out of the window tomorrow morning you will see them again; they come out in the east and graze the sky. But now it is time to sleep. Shhh.
The tale ends here. Sleep well.
