There is a road that leads to sleep. Everyone's road is different; but they all come out at the same place.
The road begins at the door of your room. At the first step you leave your shoes. No more running, no more walking. Let your feet rest.
At the second step you leave your daytime clothes. You put on pajamas; soft, loose, warm.
At the third step you leave the day on your teeth. Brush, foam, water. Your mouth smells of mint.
At the fourth step you leave the sounds. The television goes off, the toys fall silent, talk turns to whispers.
At the fifth step you leave the light. The big lamp goes out; only a small light stays. Or none at all; the dark is soft too.
At the sixth step you leave your thoughts. What will happen tomorrow, what happened today, who said what... You put them all down at the side of the road. You'll pick them up in the morning; they won't get lost.
At the seventh step you close your eyes. The road can no longer be seen; it is felt. The quilt grows heavier, the pillow grows deeper, your breath slows down.
There is no eighth step. By the eighth step you are already asleep.
Which step are you on now? Let's count: shoes... pajamas... teeth... sounds... light... thoughts... eyes...
See? The road is finished. You have arrived.
The tale ends here. Sleep well.
