One winter night Nasreddin Hodja was asleep in his warm bed. Shouting and yelling came from the street. Two men were fighting. The Hodja's wife nudged him: "Hodja, get up and see what is going on."
The Hodja got up unwillingly. The air was icy. He threw his quilt over his shoulders, opened the door and went out into the street. "Friends, what is going on, why are you fighting?"
The two men suddenly fell silent. They looked at the Hodja. Then one of them grabbed the quilt from the Hodja's back, and the other ran off. Both of them vanished into the dark.
The Hodja went back inside, shivering. His wife asked: "What happened? What was the fight about?"
The Hodja got into bed, his teeth chattering: "The fight was about our quilt, wife. The quilt is gone, the fight is over."
His wife was angry at first, then she laughed. The next morning she got an old quilt from the neighbors. Whenever the Hodja slept under that quilt he smiled: "If there is a fight next time, I'll look out of the window."
You too, pull your quilt up well tonight; you never know who is outside.
The tale ends here. Sleep well.
