Two friends were walking in the forest. Suddenly a huge bear appeared in front of them. One of them immediately climbed the nearest tree and hid among the leaves. The other was left alone on the path.
There was nowhere to run. He remembered something someone had once told him: bears do not eat the dead. He lay down on the ground at once, held his breath and did not move.
The bear came closer. It nudged him with its nose, sniffed his face and pressed its snout to his ear. The boy did not even breathe. The bear took him for dead, grunted and went back into the forest.
When the bear had gone, the friend climbed down from the tree. He asked with a laugh: "The bear seemed to whisper something in your ear? What did it say?"
The boy on the ground got up, brushed himself off and answered calmly: "It said: whoever leaves his friend alone in a moment of danger is not a good friend."
The friend from the tree looked at the ground. From that day on, whenever they walked in the forest, they walked side by side. And both of them knew: friendship is proved not on fine days, but when the bear comes.
