A copper cauldron and a clay pot lived in the same kitchen. One day the copper cauldron said, "Come on, let's go out and see the world." The pot said, "I'm fragile, let me stay at home." The cauldron insisted: "I'll protect you, walk beside me, if anything happens I'll shield you."

The pot agreed. They set off. The road was stony. At every bump the cauldron swayed to the right and the pot to the left. Sometimes they bumped into each other. The cauldron was solid; the pot cracked a little more at every bump.

On a hill there was a big ditch. The cauldron said, "Jump, I'm jumping too!" They both jumped. The cauldron fell with a "clang" and rolled. The pot went "crack" and shattered into pieces.

The cauldron looked at the pieces and was sad. "I wanted to protect you," he said. But the pieces of the pot could not answer.

With this tale La Fontaine says: take care when you set out on the same road as someone much stronger than you; a small touch from them may mean breaking for you. Whoever walks with their own kind arrives whole.

The tale ends here. Sleep well.
